It is tough to separate musicians and fashion because, for decades, music and fashion are almost intertwined. Musicians for a long time, have defined what is fashionable in pop culture, not only through their songs but the attire and apparel they rock in. In the 1990s, numerous Hip Hop artists and rock stars were seen to find the Tommy Hilfiger brand stunning and embraced it. The brand ever since has remained to be a mainstream fashion style for many, and to a large extent, this success was because of Tommy’s younger brother, Andy Hilfiger.

Currently, Andy Hilfiger who is 57 years old is the creative directors of both Artistix and Andrew Charles clothing (his own label), but his prowess and knack to connecting fashion and music manifested at a tender age of nine. This was when he was gifted a beattle as guitar by his elder brother Tommy Hilfiger who had just put up his first store. Little did Tommy know that his gift to Andy unleased an unexploited talent. During his childhood, he worked at the store selling jeans, at the same time practicing to play the guitar at the store’s basement with his rock band, Vaudeville. Tommy attired Andy’s band and took the role of manager, getting gigs for them in upstate New York, before the band began playing in the city. Although Hilfiger enjoyed playing bass for the group, deep down he knew that his success was in the world of fashion, and it was not long before he stopped doing countless gigs and concentrated in bringing music to the Hilfiger brand. Andy’s contributed immensely to the success of the brand with his vision to merge music and the Hilfiger line which made it easy for the older brother to get more space to delve into the creative part of the business. The rise of the brand began after the two started partnership with celebrities, specifically Snoop Dogg.

It was Andy’s involvement in the music realm that encourages different musician to want to wear and be an ambassador of the Hilfiger brand. Later, the brand was received well by some of the then Hip Hop giants which pushed the Tommy Hilfiger fashion line to the next level. Soon other prominent figures in the music scene were seen representing the brand, and this relationship was responsible for propelling the firm to being a billion dollar business. However, Andy Hilfiger left the brand as part of the Hilfiger fashion designer, but his contribution to the fashion industry was still noticeable. He continued to work with other entities, including musicians, in creating their fashion lines.
